Can you do a full glam makeup look in 30 minutes?

A full glam can fit into about thirty minutes if you prioritize instead of speeding up everywhere: on Black or mixed-race skin, brows and base stay untouchable, because a poorly applied base turns gray or orange and it shows immediately, while the highlights around the eyes are the first thing you can drop without the result suffering.

This client arrived with a very precise idea. She had seen a full glam on TikTok, she loved the photo, she wanted that. She was heading to a photo shoot afterwards and she was in a hurry. Her question, right away: is it possible to finish quickly?

Thirty-two minutes, by the clock. And her first words in front of the mirror: "oh I already love it", then "wow I love it".

I didn't speed up, I prioritized

That's the nuance that changes everything. I didn't change my usual order and I didn't do the same moves faster. I focused my time on the areas that carry the face: brows, base, lips.

The brows, because they're what people notice most. They structure the eyes and frame everything else. A sloppy brow is seen before the makeup even is.

The base, for a reason specific to Black and mixed-race skin: if it's done badly, it shows right away. It turns gray or orange. There's no halfway, unlike fair skin where a shade mistake can more easily go unnoticed. It's exactly the step where saving five minutes costs the most.

What I used on her

She had a warm undertone and normal, very smooth skin. I prepped with a Vitamin C 3-in-1 spray from Blossom Makeup, then Maybelline's Grippy Serum primer for grip.

For the base, Nars foundation in Namibia, set with One Size loose powder in Rich. I sculpted with the Curve Case palette, the shades "A Richuation" and "Blend n Snatch" to deepen the shadows. My move for the cheeks: a sweep toward the inside of the face, as if pulling the shadow toward the center.

The blush in an orangey pink, "Where's the SPF" combined with "Cow Lick", chosen for its warm undertone. The TikTok photo showed something else, but copying a shade exactly makes no sense: you keep the look, and adapt the colors to the person's complexion.

On the lips, Kiko Everlasting 12 brown pencil for the outline, a purple lipstick from Sephora, and a Kiko red as a transition in the center. I also pressed shadow over the eyeliner to create a smoky effect. Finished with Charlotte Tilbury's Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray to tie it all together.

What I would have added with more time

Highlights around the eyes, to light up the gaze. It's the only thing this makeup is missing, and it's a deliberate choice, not an oversight.

That's the logic: when time runs short, it's the touches of radiance that go, never the foundations. A client doesn't notice what wasn't added. She immediately notices a base that has shifted color.

This speed comes from Fashion Week

I'm not fast by nature. I learned to be, working as Make-Up Expert at four Paris Fashion Weeks, where you never have the time you'd like and the result still has to be flawless. That's where you learn where to spend your time.

So if you arrive late, or with an evening starting in an hour, say so. We'll adapt the list, not the quality.
